Catalogue Modelling
Catalogue modelling offers models the chance to model clothes, accessories and products for all kinds of catalogues. These may be mail order, chain store, niche market or insert catalogues (where the catalogues are inserted into a publication).
Catalogues tend to show their products being worn by models with a more everyday look than other modelling jobs as the images here need to appeal to the average consumer. This is also an opportunity for models of different ages, sizes and looks to get regular work. Popular catalogue model types include:
- Babies, toddlers and young children
- Teenagers
- Young men and women
- Middle aged men and women
- Older men and women
- People of a higher than standard clothes size
The types of models used in a catalogue will depend on the clothes and products that are being sold. So, for example, a catalogue selling clothes and products for the over 60s will not use young catwalk type models as this wouldn't appeal to its target audience. And, a catalogue for a designer clothing range targeted at young women will need to use models that look like the women who will potentially buy the clothes.
Most models here will get their jobs through modelling agencies and sometimes through photographers although some may be spotted by an agency and offered work. In some cases catalogue companies will advertise for models as well.
